Spring Hill Dietitian – 3 effective ways to fight sugar addiction (that you didn’t know about!)
If you’ve read our previous articles on sugar (you haven’t? Well, go ahead and do that now! Sugar is your biggest enemy to losing weight, and the best way to fight the enemy is to know how it operates. Here’re articles 1: Sugar Rush: The Bitter Truth and 2: What happens to your body when you eat sugar?) you are most likely wondering how you can exclude sugar from your diet. But it’s not that easy, is it? That’s because a) this thing is highly addictive. Like, cocaine-addictive. And b) it’s EVERYWHERE. How can you fight an enemy that is coming at you from all fronts?!
The good news is, it only takes about 21 days to break a habit. If you can manage to keep away from sugar for that long, chances are you will stop craving it all together. But how can you stay away from something your body wants so much? Our Spring Hill Dietitian is here to help you out. Here are 3 unusual ways to fight that nasty sugar addiction.
Spring Hill Weight Loss – 1. Learn what your triggers are and remove them
As soon as you start craving a sweet treat, take a moment to think. What triggers the craving? Are you sad? Bored? Maybe you haven’t had a meal in a long time and your blood sugar levels are low? Maybe you eat sweets just because they are simply there? Or perhaps you associate one habit with another one, e.g. you always have something sugary after work? It is crucial to learn how to recognize your triggers – it’s the first step to removing them.
Spring Hill Dietitian – 2. Replace a bad habit with a good one
Once you know your triggers, it’s time to eliminate them from your daily routine. If your usual thing to do is have a sweet snack after work, condition yourself to eat something healthier, i. e. a banana instead of a chocolate bar. If you only want sweets when you’re sad/bored/angry, find a better way to deal with your emotions. As soon as you start feeling down, instead of going for your usual guilty pleasure, go for a walk. Meditate. Read your favorite book. Call someone. Don’t seek comfort in sugar because that’s what causes all the bad emotion in the first place.
Hernando County Weight Loss – 3. Drink lemon water
According to our Spring Hill Dietitian, most of our empty calories come from soft drinks. As mentioned in one of the previous articles, an innocent glass of orange juice can contain as much as 10 teaspoons of sugar. Water is the best possible option to satisfy your thirst, but not everyone likes their water plain. That’s why lemon water is a great way to switch things up a bit. Not only it tastes great but it actually detoxifies your body as well. You get rid of added sugar in your diet AND you cleanse your body at the same time. Win-win!
